THE FOOTBALL WEEKEND is a Friday morning newsletter previewing all the best matches across world football over the coming weekend: the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, and more. Get kickoff times and broadcasters, fantasy picks and what to watch for—all in your inbox to mark the beginning of the end of the workweek.

It’s the kind of thing I would have loved to read during my former life as a magazine editor, primarily across eight years at Esquire magazine. There wasn’t too much space for football writing there, though I did sneak in a feature story on the U.S. Men’s National Team heading into the 2022 World Cup and covered the tournament on the ground in Qatar. Probably the highlight of my time there was the opportunity I got to interview Pelé, a task that fell to a 24-year-old editorial assistant because he was the football fan on staff.

I’ve had a fanatical interest in the Premier League since 2006, sometimes catching five games in a weekend, but somehow I’d miss El Clásico or the Milan derby far too often. So I’ve invented something to help keep track of things. THE FOOTBALL WEEKEND will make sure you’re aware of the matches that are worth your time any given Saturday. It will also arm you with some talking points on the stakes, players to watch, and a healthy dose of Narrative before you head out to catch a match with friends. It’s free, but if it’s something you value, I’d appreciate it if you could support it with a member subscription.
